THEOLOGICAL FOUNDATION
WE BELIEVE in one sovereign God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the giver, sustainer, and redeemer of life; and that God created the heavens and the earth out of nothing by God’s spoken word, and for God’s own glory.
WE BELIEVE the character of the triune God and ultimate truth in the created order is revealed to us by the Holy Spirit, through Scripture, and as we engage others, witnessing to the love and truth of God as recorded in the Old and New Testaments.
WE BELIEVE God created the world and called it good.
WE BELIEVE God created humanity in God’s image, distinct from all other living creatures, and in a state of original righteousness which was compromised when Adam and Eve sinned by rebelling against God’s revealed will, thereby incurring both physical and spiritual death. As a result, all human beings are born with a sinful nature that leads them to sin in thought, word, and deed.
WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, came to earth as true God and true man, existing in one person and without sin; we believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in his ascension into heaven, and in his present life there for us as Lord of all, High Priest, and Advocate.
WE BELIEVE that the Lord Jesus Christ lived, died and rose for our sins, triumphing over all evil; and all who believe in him are justified by grace through faith and forgiven of all their sins.
WE BELIEVE that all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ by grace alone through faith alone are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby are called children of God.
WE BELIEVE that the Holy Spirit dwells in and gives life to believers, enabling them to understand the Scriptures, empowering them for godly living, and equipping them for service and witness.
WE BELIEVE that Christ’s people in this world are to be God’s redeemed community, who embody God’s love through the proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind; the shelter, nurture and spiritual fellowship of the children of God; the maintenance of divine worship; the preservation of the truth; the promotion of social righteousness; the exhibition of the kingdom of heaven to the world; and the stewardship of God’s creation.
WE BELIEVE that the stewardship of God’s creation includes care for the natural environment, joyful Christian community that includes and welcomes all people, and gracious hospitality that contributes to the flourishing of all life.
WE BELIEVE in the blessed hope that Jesus Christ will soon return to earth, personally, visibly, and unexpectedly, in power and glory, to judge the living and the dead, fulfilling God’s will on earth as it is in heaven, restoring creation into right relationship with God and creation itself.
